Look at the ordinary.
Imagine the extraordinary.

Our after school classes facilitate problem solving, bravery, abstract thinking and ingenuity in our students. These are skills children need to grow into capable doers and makers. Students will learn about technology, engineering and design through experimentation, and building with found objects, rather than following a set of instructions.

By offering this type of hands-on learning space with an untraditional structure and more abstract materials, students have the opportunity to gain the greatest sense of pride and confidence in what they create.

Our class environment is at the junction of art and science. We believe the work of scientists and artists are in many ways the same process: starting with basic concepts and ordinary materials then envisioning and building something entirely new. This is the moment of creation. This is an ability that can be developed and nurtured but is often overlooked in traditional educational structures. We created these classes to help fill that gap.

We currently serve over 700 children in classrooms and after school programs throughout New York City. And we are ready to come to yours!  KoKo currently offers after-school and in-school programs in:

STEAM (science, technology, engineering, ART, and math), is a common thread throughout our classes and workshops. Whether through use of open source technology and/or simple components such as littleBits kids in our Bit Bots classes learn about circuitry, programming and other scientific concepts. In our building workshops, kids learn to think like engineers as they bring their ideas to fruition.

We use a small, open environment to give each child special attention so that they may flourish and develop their own sense of individuality. Our goal is to create a greater understanding of the intersection of art and technology to help your child develop problem-solving skills that will benefit them in school and for the rest of their lives.

Our arts education programs have been hosted by esteemed organizations such as the MoMa, Children’s Museum of Manhattan, Brooklyn Museum, TedYouth and Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. We have been featured in numerous publications and media including The New York Times, New York Daily News and Brooklyn Independent Television.
