In the spirit of a tree house (without the tree), our group of kids, aged 7-12, designed and built a sustainable home entirely from scratch on a repurposed lot in South Slope. They drew up their own plans, cut their own lumber and built a main house and four smaller homes all of which had a working roofs insulated with recycled yoga mats. The main house had a kitchen, living room and even a front porch, complete with a porch swing! We were honored to have a real construction worker on site who helped us make lots of progress with our buildings. The project was open to the public at various times throughout our process as a reflection of the sustainable and creative possibilities within our neighborhood!
